If a fuel pressure regulator or a fuel pressure sensor has failed there will be insufficient fuel pressure going to the fuel injectors causing the poor idle and loss in performance. A fuel pressure regulator is a mechanical device that regulates the fuel pressure via a diaphragm and a vacuum line. A fuel pressure sensor regulates the fuel pressure by controlling the power to the fuel pump. A Vehicle will only have one ore the other.
- The second common option is that the engine is loosing compression due to warn rings or leaky head gasket. This can be determined with a compression test or better a leak down test.
